             A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the density of liquids. It is made from blown glass, with a scale marked on the stem and a lead weight at the bottom of the bulb. As a result of the manufacturing process, the actual readings may differ from the values shown on the scale.

 

            Therefore, every new hydrometer should be calibrated using a precise and traceable method by a trusted and accredited laboratory. For hydrometers used as working instruments, annual calibration is recommended.
